I am a former librarian by training — I earned my MLIS at Kent State University in Ohio, and worked at several academic and public libraries. And although I always loved reading, fiction, and helping people find their favorite characters, I also knew that I wanted to make things. Since I was a kid, I’ve always been excited to learn how things used to be made, and I've always wanted to try them myself: sewing dresses, dipping or pouring candles, knitting, weaving, or spinning wool. (I’ve even won a few county faire awards for my spinning!)

But back then, my mom wouldn’t let me play with any lye — how dare she, I know. (Belated thanks for my mother for not letting 10 year old me burn my skin off.)
